Car repair shop (anonymised)
Concept — unsolicited studyA typical 2011 garage website: table layout, price list as a PDF, phone number in the footer. The study shows what would change the most for the least work.
- Status:
- Unsolicited study
Context
A garage on the edge of a large city. Customers find it from a phone, usually at the moment something has broken and they need to call immediately. The site has five pages and its last update was in 2019.
What was wrong
- On a phone the number appears only after three screens of scrolling
- The price list is a PDF that barely opens on a phone
- Opening hours are nowhere visible
- Stock photography featuring cars sold in a different market
- The business is not in the maps or the local directories
Constraints
Assumed budget at the First aid level. The goal is not a new website but more phone calls from the existing one.
What we did
- Phone number as the first thing on screen, tap to call
- Opening hours and address directly beneath it
- Price list moved out of the PDF and into the page
- Real photographs of the workshop instead of stock
- Listings in the maps and the local directories
